My Current K pop Playlist and Recent Comebacks

I have this habit of checking songs from new groups and groups that I’m familiar with but don’t exactly follow. If you visit the Youtube channel of 1theK and Stone music entertainment, you will see how many k pop artists are releasing music everyday.

These are the songs that are currently on my playlist.

1.Dumhdurum Apink

I’m starting to love this group especially with their new comeback. This song is a bop and I’m so happy that despite of new groups debuting, they still managed to get an award.

2. Come See Me  AOA

They’re one of my favorite girl groups that I forgot to mention in my top favorite k pop groups post. But I’m glad they are making waves again after their Queendom stunt.

3. I like you Day6

Day 6 is one of my favorite korean bands. I kinda regret that I wasn’t able to see them when they came in our country.

4. Congratulations Day6

Another great song from this band. I love playing this in Superstar JYP. Make sure to check out that cool game app.

5. Time of our life Day 6

6. Chocolate Changmin of TVXQ

I still can’t find where’s the chocolate in the music video but I guess it’s metaphor for desire. Changmin looks like a vampire who never ages and he looks gorgeous in this comeback.

7. Run away TXT

I’m not a huge fun of this group but this song is really addicting and I don’t agree that they’re overrated. I think they have what it takes to be popular like BTS.

8.  Memories Wh3n

I recently discovered this singer and I was blown away by his voice which reminded me a lot of Hongki. I’ll follow him from now on. Make sure to check him out. Please!

9. Boom  NCT Dream

I accidentally discovered this while listening to iKON. I’m not very familiar with this group and I only know one of their songs. Regular, in Korean, English and Chinese, so that’s three if you count this way.

And I was surprised to find out that they have a new song. I checked it and it was good.

10. Leave It  N Flying

This is a very catchy song and Jaehyun smiling while playing drums in the music video is so cute.

I’m happy for them as they have released an official lightstick.

So here’s my current playlist. I hope you’ll check them out and feel free to share your playlist too. I love checking new kpop songs.

Best K pop Albums

I’ll be honest.I skip some songs in some albums, even from my favorite artists. I guess it’s normal not to like all the songs in an album although I know that they’ve worked hard for every song. Anyway, I do have favorite K pop albums that I listen to without skipping as I love all the songs.

Ft Island’s Zapping

Ft Island hardly releases a bad song and this album proves it. This is Ft Island’s latest album and their last before they started entering the army. This is also their first album without Jonghoon and their last one with Seunghyun, as he recently left from the group.

My favorite song from this album is No Regret.

trans01. Quit
02.  Hope Again
03. Day By Day
04. No Regret
05. Don’t Lose Yourself

This is iKON’s Third mini album and their first one without B.I. I highly recommend this album and all other iKON albums. You don’t have to be an iKONIC to appreciate their songs and their albums have great concepts and packaging ( Great for k pop album collector). I love all songs but my favorite has to be Flower.

trans01. Ah Yeah
02.  Dive
03. All the world
04. Holding on
05. Flower

Bolbbalgan4’s Red Diary Page 2

Bolbbalgan4 used to be a duo of talented singers until one member left recently. This album is the best playlist for road trips and during rainy nights. My favorite song from this album is Travel.

trans 01. Wind
02.  Travel
03. Starlight
04. Hey, Teddy Bear
05. Clip                                                                                                                                                       06.  Lonely                                                                                                                                               07. Travel (instrumental)

Cherry Bullet’s Love Adventure

This is Cherry Bullet’s second mini album and their last one with complete members. I really hope they will keep this kind of concept but judging from their recent comeback, I think they will lean more into girl crush now.

I love playing this album on my way to work.

01. Really, Really
02.  PingPong
03. Ruddy

Itzy’s IT’Z ICY

This is Itzy’s debut album and includes their debut song, Dalla Dalla. I love the concept of this album and the freebies are collector’s dream. Best album to play in a summer party, especially It’z Summer.

trans01. ICY
02.  Cherry
03. It’z Summer
04. Dalla Dalla
05. Want It

Shaun’s Take

This is Shaun’s first album. I tried looking for a physical one but I believe it only has a digital version. My favorite from this album is definitely Way Back Home but the rest of the songs are great too especially Nocturnal.

02.  Thinking of You
03. Nocturnal
04. Arirang

Make sure to check these albums and feel free to share your favorite K pop albums too!

Deep and Dark and Dangerous

When Alison found a torn childhood photograph of her mom and aunt Dulcie, her mother’s estranged sister, in an old book, she was intrigued by the identity of the child that was supposedly in the picture with them. She accepted Dulcie’s invitation to spend the summer with her and babysit her cousin, Emma while vacationing in their summer house where her mom and aunt used to spend the summer when they were young.

They met Sissy, a spiteful kid who won’t leave the cousins alone and tried to brainwash Emma into bullying Ali. Sissy always gets Ali into trouble and scares her through mentioning Teresa, a young girl who drowned in a nearby lake when Claire and Dulcie were kids, and whose body was never recovered.

Mary Downing  Hahn is one of my favorite authors. I’ve been dying to read this story and I wasn’t disappointed. Deep and Dark and Dangerous is more than a horror story. Just like other ghost stories written by this brilliant author, it relates other underlying issues and this time, it’s about parenting and how a childhood trauma could affect your future, if left unresolved.

I thought Claire, the protagonist’s mom was the bad person and I could understand why Ali would like to get away from her even for the summer. But I found out later on that Dulcie, her aunt was worse and Claire’s overprotectiveness soon made sense. At least Claire was responsible enough to seek professional help and acknowledge that her behavior is affecting her family while Dulcie tried to cover up her mistake with a brave front.

I love how mature the main character is and I feel bad for how Dulcie treated her during their stay at the vacation house. Her cousin is a total brat which was not surprising, being raised by a mentally unstable mom. I just hope Ali got paid for being Emma’s babysitter.

I saw comments of disappointed readers in goodreads who even compared this to Wait Till Helen Comes, another ghost story from the same author, but as much as I love Wait Till Helen Comes, I have to disagree with them. Deep and Dark and Dangerous definitely has my vote. It’s chilling and sad at the same time. The ghost was not exactly a friendly one and someone to be scared of like Helen but there’s something about her that gained my sympathy which I didn’t feel for Helen. Perhaps, it’s because they haunt for different reasons. Helen wanted someone to share her loneliness with ( aside from her longing for her parents and wanting to find their missing bodies) while the ghost in Deep and Dark and Dangerous  just wanted the truth to come out and for her body to have a proper burial so she could rest in peace.

iKON’s Comeback and My Favourite Kpop Artists

I spent my day streaming iKON’s new comeback song.  Dive has an amazing lyrics and it perfectly describes how I feel about iKON. I wasn’t disappointed and I still believe it’s a great song even if a lot of so called fans tried to downplay the group’s effort because they were having a hard time accepting that their bias is no longer in the group. I started following iKON after Hanbin left and from what I see, most Ikonics are Hanbin supporters. I understand that it’s difficult to accept your bias’ departure from the group that you spent years supporting.  I had a hard time accepting when Taecyeon left from JYP entertainment, as I knew that it would affect his activities with 2PM and I didn’t think I could still support Infinite like before without Myungsoo. But at least, I’m not like other fans who demand the group to disband if they could no longer continue with complete members or mentioning their bias’ name in every video or post related to the group’s activities.

Being Ft island’s supporter showed me how to be a ‘true’ fan and how to fully support a group. Jonghoon used to be my bias and as much as I recognized his contribution to FT island, I’m not the type of fan who would turn a blind eye to her idol’s misconduct. I still love FT Island and all its members, and I’ll be waiting for their comeback even if my new bias Seunghyun also left the group.

Being a fan of a group means supporting the whole group and not an individual member.  It’s either you leave the fandom and support your bias’ individual activity or you support the group without your favourite member.

I find it unfair to the other members who are trying to save the group being treated by bitter fans as if they were no longer relevant when a popular member left. A real fan supports the group as a whole and would take time to get to know every individual member.

Moving on from iKON’s successful comeback, I decided to write a post about my favourite KPOP artists. Here is a list of my favourite Kpop groups and individual artists. I’m also into Gfriend and Apink at the moment. I’m still far from being called a fan but I like some of their songs. I love to hear suggestions too so feel free to comment your favourite songs and Kpop artists.

The Ghost Next Door

When Sherry Alston came to visit her aunt Judith, she claimed to have an imaginary playmate named Miranda. Sherry didn’t know anything about Miranda, her dead half-sister, who accidentally drowned in a pond, years ago. Thirteen year old Lindsey lived next door to the Alstons’ mansion. Together with her best friend Tammy, they tried to unravel the mystery of the ghost next door.

I love this novel and the flow of the story was very intriguing that I couldn’t put it down. Basically, people around Sherry were skeptical whether she could really see Miranda’s ghost. Most of the characters are either weird or interesting, especially Mr. Farrar (he belonged to the weird character category) who even invited a famous psychic to summon the spirit of Miranda and plotted evidence just to prove that this psychic he brought could communicate with ghosts. I’m not sure what’s up with this guy but I’m glad he wasn’t my neighbor.

Mr. Alston, Sherry’s dad and her aunt Judith were close siblings and they were obviously still affected by Miranda’s sudden death. Mr. Alston tried to give Sherry everything because of the guilt that he wasn’t able to be there for his dead daughter while aunt Judith couldn’t give Sherry the same affection she gave to Miranda and wasn’t ready to let go of Miranda’s memories. I feel that these two are being unfair to Sherry. It’s hard to fight for someone’s love especially if you’re competing with a dead person.

Lindsey and Tammy are neighbors with the Alstons and a good friend of aunt Judith. Sherry became friends with Lindsey’s brothers when she came for a vacation with her parents. I’m not sure why I find the two girls, Lindsey and Tammy, a bit peculiar. I think they’re too unbelievably clever for their age and it’s difficult to relate to them especially for a thirteen year old reader.

The best thing I like about this story is the mystery whether Sherry could really see Miranda’s ghost or everything she knew about her dead half-sister was due to finding Miranda’s old diary. Well, the bad thing -the mystery remained a mystery till the end.Miranda didn’t really show herself to anyone except to Sherry- if she really could see the ghost of Miranda. There was no climax where the characters were being chased by a terrifying spirit of a young girl or no dramatic confrontation with shocking revelations or similar to that.

Even the place where Miranda hid the owl with the love on its eyes, a figurine she made with her aunt before she died, wasn’t much of a revelation. I was expecting something shocking like aunt Judith accidentally killed Miranda and the owl was buried with her hidden body but there wasn’t anything like that. It’s still my favourite part though and what kept me intrigue till the end.

Over all, the novel is a great read and a page turner if you like mystery and it did scare me a bit but I have to warn you, don’t expect a ghost to show up or you’ll be disappointed.

Halloween Reads

I want to start this post by telling a story I heard from my brother, which was also told to him by a friend or a co-worker- I don’t remember anymore. Anyway, the story is about a distance relative who received a job offer from a company who was generous enough to assist him in finding a new apartment that is in close proximity to his new job. They had a spare apartment which they could rent out to him for a more reasonable fee. After accepting the job, he soon moved into his new home with his wife. One night, he dreamed of a child going out of the old wardrobe which was located near the bed. The wardrobe was owned by the previous occupants and was locked. He didn’t think of the dream as something weird and assumed that it was one of those normal nightmares you get every night caused by vivid imagination or from watching horror movies. But he kept on having the same dream until it started to bother him. He decided to tell his unusual dreams to his wife. His wife was frightened, and they soon moved out of the house. Why did they move out immediately? It was because the wife was also having the same re-occurring dream, a boy going out of the closed wardrobe.

This story reminds me of the children’s horror books I used to read when I was in high school. They are probably not as creepy as the horror novels for adults but they are unforgettable enough that even if you remember the story years later while you’re alone in your living room, it will still make you shiver and run to your mother even if you’re already twenty seven. Or maybe it’s just me whose animal spirit is a scared cat.

Since it’s Halloween, I decided to share my favourite horror novels.

1. The Doll in the Garden

Following the death of her father, Ashley moved with her mother in a quiet neighbourhood. The not so friendly, landlady warned her to never to go to the garden, but Ashley didn’t listen.

This story is sad and heart-warming at the same time. It shows how a childhood regret could haunt someone till old age.

2. Wait Till Helen Comes

Molly hates her step-sister, Heather who always put her and her brother, Michael into trouble. Heather’s real mother died in a mysterious fire and her father remarried Molly and Michael’s mom. And now, they’re stuck with her and their new step-dad who spoils his daughter and believes whatever she says, in their new house in the woods. A house that used to be a church with a graveyard behind.

And now, Heather found a new friend named Helen and Molly’s terrified of her. It’s because Helen died in a mysterious fire, a hundred years ago.

I love the close bond between Molly and Michael and the novel doesn’t only tell the story of a ghost who was separated from her parents but also shows the complications of remarriage, both for parents and children.

3. Time for Andrew

Andrew made a deal with a ghost of a dead boy that looks exactly like him, who lured him into a different time. What if the ghost doesn’t want to switch places with him anymore?

This is a good story of a journey to the past and being able to meet the younger version of your family. I wish I could switch places with a ghost too and be able to  see how my parents lived during their younger days and perhaps, I’ll be able to change the future.

4. Jane-Emily

A nine-year-old orphan, Jane, came to spend the summer with her young aunt, Louisa at Jane’s grandmother’s huge, mysterious mansion, where a young girl named Emily died, a long time ago.

5. The Dollhouse Murders

Amy found an antique dollhouse- an exact replica of their ancestral house- in the attic of their old family home. The dolls in the dollhouse were moving on their own, as if they want to tell Amy something. Perhaps, they have the answer to an old family secret- the murder of Amy’s grandparents that happened years ago.

So, these are my favourite ghost stories. Have you read any of these? Don’t forget to share what you think of these novels. Happy Halloween, everyone!
